"Time To Make A Difference

Welcome

Welcome to our website. We are the Georgia Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA). An estimated 1.5 million Americans have Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's is a slowly progressive brain disorder resulting in the loss of dopamine production. Dopamine is the neuro-transmitter responsible for aiding in body movements. Symptoms include slowness of movement, tremor, muscle stiffness, and postural instability. To date there is no cure.

The purpose of this website is to offer PD patients, caregivers, family and friends in Georgia a place to get the latest on research, clinical trials, programs, events, educational seminars, support groups, fundraising activities and other valuable information.

Let us know if there is something we can add or change to make our site better for you. Check back often as we will be updating on a monthly basis to keep you informed on the latest information.

tulipSymbol of Hope: The tulip is the international symbol of our hope of finding a cure for Parkinson's disease. In 1980, renowned Dutch horticulturist, Van der Wereld (himself a Parkinson's patient) gave the name "Dr. James Parkinson" to his prize winning red and white tulip in honor of the English doctor who first described the condition in 1817.
